Northern Lakes Economic Alliance is excited to announce the availability of two $500.00 scholarships; one for a college student and one for a high school student that enroll in Manufacturing Technology, Computer Numeric Control (CNC) classes through North Central Michigan College (NCMC) in the winter 2017 semester. Thanks to a generous donation from Triune Specialty Trailer, the Madison Hts., Michigan manufacturer of NCMC’s Fab Lab, students will be able to apply for scholarships, to pay for a portion of their tuition in the CNC program.
These CNC classes offer instruction, utilizing NCMC’s mobile Fab Lab. The Fab Lab has a CNC mill, CNC lathe, Computer Aided design (CAD) software and 12 computer stations. College classes are offered at NCMC’s Petoskey campus. In addition, the Fab Lab travels to Central Lake, East Jordan, Boyne City, Pellston and Wolverine high schools providing dual enrollment CNC classes. Note the $500.00 scholarship for a high school student will actually be awarded to the high school in honor of one of their students, since the school pays for the class and the student already does not incur any costs.
These classes will prepare students for high-tech, high-paying manufacturing CNC operator and programmer jobs that are available throughout Northern Michigan.
Scholarship applications must be received by Friday, December 16, 2016 and the scholarship awards will be applied to CNC classes that begin in January 2017.
We are hoping to expand this scholarship program for the future. Our goal is area manufacturers and other organizations will contribute to the scholarship pool, as they see these CNC scholarships as a tool to increase the skills needed to fill the high-tech jobs available in northern Michigan.
