From Brownfield to Grocery Store

It all began like any good community development project should, with multiple partners around the table brainstorming a win-win scenario for helping a challenging project move forward. The project at hand involved property with two blighted buildings and knowledge of past activity that lent itself to the likelihood of contaminated soils, all factors that add extra expenses. However, the opportunities far outweighed the challenges and included preservation of green space, cleanup and reuse of blighted buildings and contaminated property, and the addition of a new grocery store on the south end of town to complement the variety of surrounding businesses and serve the people that live and work in nearby neighborhoods, townships and villages.
