East Jordan Main Street Center

The 100 year old Porter Building in East Jordan, Charlevoix County, stood vacant for twenty years.  A historic landmark that sits at the primary intersection of the central business district, it remained unused and run down.  The City of East Jordan was was approached with a venture to renovate this building.  The NLEA helped the City obtain a $435,000 Community Development Block Grant for public parking and street improvements, matched with the City's $213,000 investment.  Private developers Floyd and Todd Wright invested another $2 million in building renovations.

The 2005 "Main Street Center" project generated tax revenues for the City, created 22 jobs, and today houses eight professional and retail businesses.  The project also received a 2007 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation.
