Petoskey Plastics’ Michigan manufacturing plant and corporate headquarters, located just outside the City of Petoskey, continues to invest in their Resort Township facility. Over the next two years, the company will be investing over $6.6 million in new machinery and equipment and building renovations. This will allow them to add a new extrusion line, retain their current 123 employees and hire eight to ten new employees. Petoskey Plastics is one of the area’s major manufacturing employers. This expansion will result in $177,330 in new taxes.

Because of this expansion, Petoskey Plastics needed some improvements at the MDOT owned rail siding in Petoskey. It was necessary to extend the siding so their trucks will be able to off-load the added raw material required to feed the new machines. The Northern Lakes Economic Alliance assisted Petoskey Plastics in bringing together representatives of MDOT, the Great Lakes Central Rail Road and the City of Petoskey to figure out a way to solve this problem. After studying the situation, MDOT allocated $25,000 so that the Rail Road could undertake these improvements by using local contractors. These improvements were completed in November.

Petoskey Plastics began operations in Petoskey in 1970 and has become an innovator in manufacturing plastic blown film and bags that are engineered for performance. They are an industry leader supplying the automotive, automotive aftermarket, vehicle body repair, recycling, food, retail, packaging and construction industries with engineered solutions that meet specific needs.
