The Village of Bellaire, Crusecom Technology Services, LLC and Northern Lakes Economic Alliance representatives have been working since October 2016 towards the approval of two tax abatements: Public Act 210- Commercial Rehabilitation Act and Public Act 328- New Personally Property Tax Exemption.  PA 210 freezes the property’s taxable value but continues to capture on the current taxes levied on the building while abating the new taxes generated on the rehabilitation.  PA 328 abates the taxes on the new personal property brought into the building; only the new personal property that has not recently been on the Michigan Tax Bill.

201 S Division (Papa K’s) was purchased by Crusecom with the intention of renovating and rehabilitating the old and underutilized building into an inbound call center.  Crusecom Technology Services, LLC is an inbound call center that is dedicated to professionalism and creating a healthy work environment for their highly-trained team.  Once all said and done, this will be nearly a $1,000,000 investment within the Village of Bellaire by Crusecom and roughly 100 jobs will have been created.  The new call center to open in Bellaire will be the second location in Northern Michigan with their first located in Oscoda.

At the Village’s most recent regular meeting they held a public hearing for the adoption of two resolutions in support of both tax abatements per applications submitted by Crusecom.  The Village of Bellaire granted both abatements for 5 years with the option to apply for 5 additional years on both abatements under specific criteria set by the Village of Bellaire.  NLEA assisted in the education and application process for both tax abatements with the Village of Bellaire and Crusecom Technology Services, LLC.

There are many different qualifications that projects must meet to qualify for incentives such as these two tax abatements.  The property owner must work with their local unit of government to take advantage of these incentives, your local economic development organization (Northern Lakes Economic Alliance in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet and Cheboygan Counties) can assist you to determine the applicable incentives and complete the application process.  For more information on how you or your community can take advantage of these economic development tools, please contact Hannah Sanderson at hannah@northernlakes.net or (231) 582-6482
