Expanded public transit service in Emmet County will begin on January 2, 2019!

The newly christened EMGO will run Monday through Friday. At this point, there are no bus stops where you can stand and wait to get picked up; you must call 231-597-9262 (toll free at 1-866-731-1204) to make sure the bus driver knows to stop for you. More information is available here.

Ride costs are tied to the distance traveled; half fares are available for riders 65 years and older and for those with disabilities. Note: Please bring the exact fare, as the bus drivers are not able to make change.

                             Full      Half

  Distance        Fare     Fare

      0-5 miles      $4.00   $2.00

      5-20 miles    $5.00   $2.50

      20-35 miles  $6.00   $3.00

      35+ miles     $8.00   $4.00

Rural transportation is a complicated and expensive issue, and as this system gets underway, it is likely that adjustments to the routes and schedules will be made. Emmet County officials hope that the service will be used by residents and visitors for travel to and from work, shopping, school, and for just plain having fun.

Expanded transit service in Emmet County has been discussed for years, and many people and organizations—including the NLEA—are working diligently to make sure the service is a success. The Emmet County Board of Commissioners and County staff should be applauded for their commitment to this project and the efforts it took to make this happen. Get there with EMGO!
