Tabled Plant Rehabilitation District to Resume in Charlevoix Township

Buck Love / Director of Business Retention

PRD building photoWork at the Plant Rehabilitation District (PRD) located at the old Viatec company building at the corner of US 131 and Martin Road has been resumed after a decision to table the project in September 2018 was made by owners of Charlevoix Warehousing. The project was initially approved by the Charlevoix Township Board on May 14, 2018 and needs an updated resolution of approval at a public hearing scheduled for their July 13, 7:00 pm meeting.

Since that time they have made other changes to their operations which include the purchase of the Charlevoix Manufacturing building on Martin Rd, relocated their R&D area and expanded the cold storage to Martin Rd. They still occupy a small portion of the Viatec building and have continued interest in its rehabilitation.

Charlevoix Warehousing LLC has grown its cold storage availability, and its ownership has renewed interest to improve the property. They have brought in a tenant and wish to rehabilitate the southern portion of its building (approx. 7000 sq ft) for usable warehouse space.

The request to the Charlevoix Township at a public hearing on July 13, 2020 regarding this property at 12535 US31 N (#004-024-016-20) includes:

  • to update the township approval of the PRD and the statement of obsolescence
  • to clarify that the property owner is Charlevoix Warehousing

Alec Amstutz, an agent, and Tony Pearsall, co-owner, will be at the July 13 meeting for further discussion.
