Jessica Lovay, Community Development & Grants

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) recently announced they are accepting applications for new projects utilizing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) under the Infrastructure and Resiliency program. They are offering grant dollars to local units of governments looking to make updates and necessary improvements to existing public infrastructure systems.

There are stipulations and requirements to apply for this competitive round of funding. Using the funds to extend utilities for future growth will not be eligible. Recipients of the 2016 and 2017 ICE grants or the 2018 Frozen Water Grant are also ineligible. The community must also be located within a recognized Low to Moderate Community project area that will benefit the entire community.

There are also limits on dollars able to be requested and, due to funding limits, it will be a competitive process with only one submission per community allowed. Projects have a hard deadline of completion for December 31, 2021 without possibilities of extension.

If your community is interested in learning more about this round of funding from the MEDC, we encourage you to attend a conference call for questions and answers scheduled for December 19th 2:00pm.
