2019 Certificate of Development Awardees of CNC Program attending LTBB Awards Banquet.

On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, eight of the 12 students from the North Central Michigan College CNC Certificate of Development program received recognition for completing the course. A banquet was held at the LTBB Governmental Center to honor this achievement. This development program prepares motivated students to work in modern factories, manufacturing plants, and machine shops. In the past, workers manually controlled the heavy equipment used to cut, shape and form products from raw wood and metals. A CNC programmer/operator can now input highly detailed instructions into a computer system that guides robotic arms and tools to perform precision machining jobs.

The acronym (SEEDS) stands for Sustainable Employment & Economic Development Strategies and operates under the Administration of LTBB under the direction of Shiloh Slomsky. It offers Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Technology training in partnership with North Central Michigan College (NCMC) and the Manufacturing Advisory Team. Designed to enhance personal and organizational development, the career-based CNC training programs are offered in four different modules including, Dual Enrollment, Traditional, Workforce Development, and Employer-Based.

Also in attendance were several representatives from NCMC staff including college President Dr. David Finley, Pete Olson, Chuck Hayes; class Instructors, Kevin Glines, and Jeff Montgomery; and CNC Career Specialist, Angie Ross, along with the general managers and human resource directors for several area companies including Precision Edge, Bay Shore Steel Works, EJ, and Honeywell.
