A new trail-head featuring a farmer’s market area, pavilion, and public restrooms, will bring multiple economic advantages to the City of Onaway.

The opportunity to have a consistent farmer’s market will have an impact on the local farmers and artisans who will now have a permanent location in which to sell their goods and grow their operations—as more sales typically lead to more employees. The excitement from small business owners and local growers is evident in the letters of support.

Construction of a permanent trail-head in Onaway would benefit anyone using the central portion of the trail and to anyone traversing the trail’s length. An Onaway trail-head would also encourage use of the NEST by local residents, as the proposed location is only 0.25 miles north of the downtown area.

The City has recently been awarded a grant from the USDA to help construct the pavilion for the farmers market. This grant along with local and government support is one piece of a larger grant ask to the DNR for the remainder of the project. This project has the opportunity to be the economic catalyst Onaway needs to grow and thrive.
