Industrial Magnetics, Inc. 2018 tour.

National Manufacturing Day tours will return to Northern Michigan! On Oct. 8, 9 & 10, 2019, area middle and high school students and parents will have the opportunity once again to tour some of the region’s most unique and innovative manufacturing facilities.

Tours will take place during school hours at 22 companies throughout Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties.

Students who participated in the inaugural events last year were more interested in and aware of manufacturing careers and their importance—as one student stated, “It was neat to see how much  impact companies in our small towns have in our everyday world.”

Participating Manufacturers

Antrim County – EJ, Anchor Lamina, and Armor Express

Charlevoix County – Burnette Foods, EJ, East Jordan Plastics, Lexamar, Industrial Magnetics Inc., Precision Edge, SCC Skis LLC (Shaggy’s), Harbor Industries, Aster Brands, and MDC Contracting

Cheboygan County – Roman TubeFab, and Link Industries

Emmet County – Manthei Veneer, Petoskey Plastics, Lanzen, Circuit Controls, Mitchell Graphics, Central Industrial Manufacturing, Jervis Webb, and Moeller Aerospace

Area students will learn first-hand about the skills they’ll need to enter the manufacturing workforce. Local parents are encouraged to talk to their children after the tours about the high-paying, in-demand job opportunities for their students right here in Northern Michigan, and are welcome to join the tours as well.

What is National Manufacturing Day?

The Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) effort began in 2012 with the ambitious goal of affecting the public’s perception of manufacturing to inspire more people to pursue manufacturing careers. As today’s manufacturing professions are highly skilled with innovative facilities, the idea for MFG Day was to bring the public to manufacturing facilities and let them gain a positive experience of manufacturing.

2016 data from Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute, confirms that 84% more convinced that manufacturing provides careers that are interesting and rewarding, and that 90% of educators were convinced of the same, (2016 MFG Day Survey Results).
